Toughing it out
These were the hardest days for sure. A gentle climb on the first day before the big push to La Lung La. Two big climbs in one day -
both over 5000m. I started to talk to my self and got dizzy now and again on the approach to Thang La. I started hearing voices
'Australia, Australia!' and then to my astonishment a lorry pulled up and the guys I met in Shigatse were on board! This cheered me up
and some how gave me renewed energy.
I was so happy to be at the top and looking forward to the crazy downhill. Unfortunately the headwind at the top meant I had to actually
get off the bike 10km down the road and start pushing. The winds were relentless, and would not give up all day. Eventually I was
beaten, I threw the bike down and shouted 'FUCK'! Like that was going to help-duh! I just wanted to cry to be honest - I was walking at
3.5km/hr when I should have been bombing it at 30! It was 3pm and I sat and ate a lolly and cursed the wind. My map was torn and a
Lorry blasted more dust into my face.
I pressed on until 9:30pm when my body gave up. I struggled to get the tent up in the howling wind. Rain, wind, dogs growling and
barking at me at 11pm - crappy noodles and ants in my tea bags - I wanted this day to end.
