Touch down in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste

We have only been here one day but so far we have:

  • Sneaked our way in to a press conference for the Timorese press at the Presidential Palace,
  • Met the race organisers Michael, Mel, Joel and Shaun,
  • Built up the bikes
  • Spent the night in a container.

We are now heading west on our own leaving the UN cotton wool security world of the race head quarters to venture in to the wilds of East Timor.

We’ll go as far as the Indonesian border a days ride away before heading back for an interview with the President tomorrow. (Ivan’s just found out we’ve been heading East while I’ve been writing this!).

We’ll camp out tonight under the stars on the beach and blog again in a couple of days when the build up to the race is under way.
