QCT – Southern Style MTN Biking

Three days riding the beautiful Queen Charlotte Track on the South Islands Marlborough Sounds.

The track is 71km in length starting from Captain Cook’s Ship Cove and ending three days later in Anakiwa, just around the corner from Picton in the north of the south island, a short 25 minute water taxi ride away.

Julian enjoying the sights - don\'t look down!

Our Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Water Taxi from Picton to the historic Ship Cove.  Steep climb out of Ship Cove and ride 27km to Punga Cove via a cheeky beer at Furneax Lodge
  • Day 2 – From Punga Cove, climb for 20m minutes before getting back on track and riding for 24km to Portage.  We decided to camp at Cowshed Bay as accomodation at the Portage Resort was booked up – popular place for weddings
  • Day 3 – Tough climb out of Portage for the best part of 5km – then prepare yourself for the best downhills of the trip to Anakiwa before catching the water taxi back to Picton!
