Bike Prep Pt 1

Emailed Old Man Mountain re their rack systems. The Top Peak rack was sketchy in Tibet, so am hoping to get a rack made up that can withstand the heavy gear in the bags. With Video camera, stills camera, tent, sleeping bag, tools, first aid kit, food, water (!), inner tubes, spare tyre, cooking stove, billy can, clothes, books and so on it adds up to a fair amount of weight.

I was so worried about the Top Peak that I ended up carrying nearly 5 litres of water on my back last year – now that’s a killer!

OMM have a cool design where they supply a custom built rear axle for their racks so the weight is pushed into the axle not on the usual steele pins into the frame that’s quite common among other manufacturers.
